#skincaresunday : sun protection and skin complexion

So I’m kind of in the gray area between skincare and makeup with this post, but since the product I’m discussing has moisturizer in the name and contains SPF, I’m not going to feel bad, and I’m just going to throw this product over into the skincare category without any shame.

At the beginning of the summer, I was determined to find a lighter coverage option of makeup that could replace my regular foundation – MAKEUP FOREVER Mat Velvet – for the hot and humid season. I was stuck in this weird purgatory of going full on with my makeup, or trying to embrace a much more natural vibe. I read endless numbers of reviews on Sephora.com and wandered through the store checking out actual bottle sizes and comparing prices (I’m a penny-pincher and wanted to find a product that I loved, but also wasn’t going to bankrupt me). I ended in front of stila Cosmetics and, since I couldn’t make up my mind, I wound up purchasing both the stila One Step Bronze, 1 fl. oz.” target=”_blank”>One Step Illuminate and the Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 to see which one I liked best with my powder – SEPHORA COLLECTION 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation – and concealer – Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing in 01 and 02.

I began my trial with the tinted moisturizer the next day, and was pretty pleased with the smooth application on and how it felt on my skin. But, I was hesitant for the evening – and the next day – because in the past I’ve had some pretty nasty disagreements with products that contain SPF. Typically, any moisturizer or liquid makeup that contains anything to protect your skin from the sun breaks me out; and not just a few small bumps with little bitty whiteheads. I’m talking under the skin, large knots and cysts that HURT LIKE HELL that I end up messing with, make sores out of, and look like a crackhead for a few days (yea, it’s not exactly attractive). So, clearly, I was a wee bit nervous about the stila product I had chosen. Thankfully though, no signs of breakouts arose by the end of the day, and nothing had emerged on my face by the next morning, either. So I applied the tinted moisturizer the second morning, too. Same great results the second night and the third morning. I was sold! I couldn’t believe I had actually found a product that contained SPF and didn’t break me out! (Clearly, it isn’t the SPF that irritates my skin, so yay…. now I have NO IDEA what to look out for).

I ended up never even opening and trying the One Step Illuminate, so I returned it. Because like I said, I’m a penny pincher.

For someone who is wanting just some evening of your skin tone and light coverage, the stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 is the JAM! I am so unbelievably happy with this product it’s insane. I’m pretty picky and hard to please when it comes to face coverage products, so for me to truly love this and have NO negatives to report at all, seriously speaks wonders.

Ah, and the color I use is Tone, for those of you wondering 😉

What’s your favorite tinted moisturizer? Does SPF seem to bother your skin?
