Even though I go MIA from time to time here at One Fabulous Fiasco, that doesn’t mean at all that I’m taking a break from trying all sorts of skincare and makeup products! And lately, I have fallen absolutely in LOVE with several things you guys need to see.
I’ve put together a list of what I’m considering the “base” of my look these last several weeks, my “face-base” if you will. I’ve been searching and searching for a lightweight foundation, or even tinted moisturizer, to fill in for my full coverage Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation that I use for total dress-up nights. My day to day wear doesn’t need to be so intense, and the hunt was on for a lighter weight, more natural look.
However, foundation may be what most think is the fix to all skin imperfections, however, just like parenting, it takes a village! Here is my list of Must Haves at the moment for a flawless “face-base!”
Josie Maran Divine Drip Honey Butter Balm
This stuff is incredible. Although traditionally meant to be used for the face and hands, my face could not survive without this stuff. I became desperate back in the colder months for a moisturizer to truly keep my skin healthy and happy, and clear of breakouts due to the lack of appropriate moisture being added by all sorts of products I kept trying. I received a free sample from one of my Sephora online orders and without even paying attention to what the product was actually meant for, I started using it on my face. And boom! Breakouts and tight skin went away. In the heat, however, I use it sparingly and only at night, or every other day.
YADAH Lip Tint Balm, Bling Bling Yellow
Talk about an incredible base for your lips! This stuff feels so amazing when you apply it, and provides great moisture all day long. I love to use this before applying any other lip products to ensure I’m well hydrated and lacking any dead, dry skin that will cause my lipstick to flake or just look really gross. No one wants the cracked lip look.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Foundation, 2.5
Finally! I found a foundation that is PERECT for the summer months, or for any time I don’t feel like having that “full” face of foundation that I get from using the Kat Von D Lock-it foundation. I have to admit, this product scared me when I first used it, due to its very watery consistency. However, once applied and as the day went on, I couldn’t have been happier. The light diffusing technology is incredible, making my skin look flawless in the sun and in photos. I bow down to the gods of Urban Decay for this one!
Actually meant to be a powder foundation, I love to take my large powder brush and lightly swipe a bit of this powder over my entire face after applying the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless foundation. It adds just enough of a matte look without looking overly powdery or dry. I have yet to use it simply as a foundation, but I think I’ll be trying that very soon!
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, Pink Quartz
I first fell in love with the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks about seven years ago while working at the Clinique counter at Macy’s. As a cosmetic associate, you tend to try all the samples and products from all lines across the floor, and Bobbi Brown happened to be right across from my counter, and the girls who worked this line were hilarious to talk to. They gave me a Bronze Shimmer color option out of their sample selection, and I used it until that thing had just a few specks of shiny goodness left and it began dusting all over the bathroom each time I opened it. But this time around, I opted to buy a rainbow of shimmery goodness that was more fitting for my skin tone, so Pink Quartz it was. It can be a little daunting at first, looking as though it’s going to make your face look like you spent the night before doing questionable things, but the shimmer is way more subtle than you realize it’s going to be. It’s just the right amount where people won’t question your evening activities 😉
If you’re looking for a full coverage foundation that doesn’t move for hours on end, this is the stuff you need to use. This has been my go-to foundation for any special events or photography sessions (until I found the Urban Decay Weightless). If I’ve had a major breakout or issues with my skin, that’s when I’ll opt for this foundation as well, to help cover up those less than desirable imperfections!
