I recently shared with you some of my favorite products right now over on Instagram, and thought you might want some details on these products and why I’m loving them so much!
Pregnancy is a tricky time, both exciting and annoying, in so many different ways. One of the exciting parts of pregnancy for me is being able to actually grow fingernails that don’t end right when tips are supposed to begin! I have HORRIBLE nails and always have, with them always peeling and breaking before any real length shows. Many times, my nails will peel and catch my cuticle and leave behind sores. It’s not at all a pretty sight. But, when you’re trying to be budget conscious like me, you avoid the fake nails at the salon and just try to make do. Pregnancy, however, with the help of hormones and taking prenatal vitamins, I’m able to grow AWESOME nails; nails that I often have to trim and file so they don’t get too long. It’s so exciting for me!
On top of the accompanying perks of pregnancy, I also keep trying to incorporate as many healthy ingredients into my diet as possible (to make up for the sweet teeth that seems to also become so dominant during my pregnancies). I’ve been on an avocado kick and have been using it in green salads and tuna salad, as well as making guacamole or just a simple avocado spread to slather over whole wheat toast. It really is delicious, and good for you!
Now here are the details on my latest #FridayFavorites!
This company – Rainbow Light – began in California and begot its name from its main ingredient and their first product ever offered: spirulina. The researchers of the company found that this ingredient refracted all the colors of the rainbow, thus Rainbow Light was dubbed the company name. Since then, they have created a whole array of vitamins for all facets of health concerns. After reading the ingredients and comparing their Prenatal vitamin product to those of other companies on the store shelves, I liked the following about Rainbow Light:
- It had slightly higher amounts of iron than other leading brands
- It had higher amounts of Vitamin B12 in it than the other brands, something I have a history of a low level of and actually was prescribed injections previously. This is a key ingredient in energy levels and just feeling good.
- It contained their “Gentle Prenatal Blend” that consisted of red raspberry, ginger and spirulina extracts.
- It also contained probiotics to help with the dreaded pregnancy constipation. And 25 weeks into carrying this baby, I haven’t dealt with that issue yet. We’ll see as these last 15 weeks present themselves, though!
One thing to note is that I can NOT take a prenatal with Omega 3 in it. Omega 3 is fish oil and for some people can cause stomach pains, and for me, it causes horrible stomach pains. I learned this in college when I was taking an omega-3 supplement daily and was always incredibly nauseous and not able function some days because I felt so sick. Once I stopped taking it, the sickness went away. So I steer clear from this and just try to eat fish and other foods that contain it!

OPI Gel Break Trio
While at the beauty supply the other day (I’m a licensed Cosmetologist so I have the perk of shopping at the professionals-only stores such as CosmoProf and Salon Centric), it finally hit me. After all these years of having access to salon-exclusive products, I could do my OWN nails. Especially now that I have great nails that I want to maintain and actually look pretty. So I started scanning the shelves and came across the OPI Gel Break Trio. After reading about other gel nail products that require the special light to cure the gel, this group of products seemed like a great start. The three step process does not require light curing at all, just a base layer, your choice of a natural second layer, and then the final protective layer to seal it all in.
I’ve been taking advantage of nap time or movie time with the twins at least once a week to pamper myself, and this is one of the steps I’m adding in! It has seriously made a huge difference in the look of my nails. Not only do they have awesome length, but after using this Gel Break Trio they look salon fresh. And all for a fraction of the cost!

Guacamole on Whole Wheat Toast
I love avocado. I mentioned it above that I’m on an avocado kick, and naturally one thinks of guacamole when they think of the green food. Not to mention it’s a great way to take in a few great veggies! Here’s my recipe for guacamole:
- 1 Avocado, cubed
- 7-8 grape tomatoes, cut in quarters
- Handful of red onion, finely diced
- Sprinkle of garlic powder
- Squeeze of fresh lime juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Combine all of the above ingredients and lightly mix together with a fork. I like mine to be a little chunky, which is why I like to use grape tomatoes. I also prefer red onion over other onions for a much better flavor, so long as it’s finely diced. I don’t like a huge bite of onion, either! Also, if I have it, I like to add just a touch of freshly chopped cilantro. Yummy!
Also, instead of using chips to indulge in this guacamole, toast a piece or two of whole wheat toast of your choice, and pile it on! It’s so good and oh-so satisfying!
